Inside the human body

We had a lot of fun making our own 'human bodies' showing the different organs. We worked in groups and drew round the smallest children in the class. We then did research on what the different organs looked like and then made our own. These included the brain, lungs, heart, liver, kidneys and intestines.

 

Sounds of the Rainforest

We had great fun learning about rainforests. Here is some of the work we did with a rainforest 'soundscape' that we made.

Treasure Hunt

We've been learning about mapping and how to read different maps. This fun Teasure Hunt game uses compass directions and grid references to help you find the treasure. Remember ... you read grid reference numbers by finding the horizontal axis number first (top tip - the numbers along the bottom of the map!)

Incredible reading book website

Attention parents!

Every now and then you come across a website that is so amazing that it takes your breath away!

The Oxford Owl website is such a site. It has a whole library of English 'ebooks' which the children can read or listen to for free.

They are levelled in accordance to the UK Curriculum and arranged by age group but, most importantly, they have lots of great children's stories.

There's even activites that the children can do once they've read a book to test their comprehension and understanding of the story.

What's more it's beautifully designed and a pleasure to use. Please bookmark this website and encourage your child to go exploring ... they'll love it.

The Time is Now!

We've been learning to tell the time in maths lessons. We've learnt about analogue and digital time, quarter past, half past and quarter to. We've also been solving time word problems.

Go to this webpage to play some great time games. I recommend 'Stop the Clock' to see how fast you can match analogue and digital time. Clockworks by the BBC is great fun and has different levels of difficulty.

Magnificant Flying Machines

Our mission for science day was to create a 'flying machine' that could stay in the air the longest. Watch the video for our test flights. We had lots of fun and the good, old-fashioned paper aeroplane won the day!

Puppet Myths

We have worked in groups to make short puppet movies using some of our myths. We drew the characters from our stories and turned them into simple puppets. Then we rehearsed the stories using a narrator and character voices. Then we filmed our myths using lights and different settings.

Welcome back to school!

Hello P3/2, welcome back to school and the start of year 4! We are starting the new term learning all about myths and legends in language arts.

There's lots of great animated myths and legends you can watch and listen to here. You could even create your own animated myth.

In theme we are studying the Roman Empire. We will be looking at what life was like for people during Roman times. You can begin to learn more about the Romans by clicking here.

It's going to be a fantastic, amazing term, so switch on those brains and lets get learning!

Electricity and Circuits

The Blitz

We wrote fictional accounts of what life might be like for children living in the Blitz. We had to use our imaginations and also use facts we had learnt about the Blitz. Teacher Paul said he was "very happy" with our writing. Here are some examples for you to read.

Dee's account

My name is Ben and I live in a little house with my Mum and Dad. One day I look in the sky and I see Nazi airplanes and bombers. I ran to tell the news to my Dad. Dad and me go to build an Anderson shelter. I dig the soil in the garden. At night Mum made a 'blackout' around the house.

One day I hear a siren sound and I carry my gas mask and I run to the shelter. I am feeling very frightened and I hear a bomb!

Pookhao's account

I live in a little house with my family. One day the plane comes with the bombs so I made an Anderson shelter in my back garden with my Dad. Everyday I see the Home Guard looking for the bombers. My family and I carry gas masks when we think the bombers will come. Every house puts the blackout on all the time so the people in the bombers cannot see where we live.
Suddenly, I hear the siren and I put on my gas mask and go into the shelter with my family. In the shelter it is very dark and I am very frightened. I hear a noise outside and I think the bomber has fallen down. It is nightime now and I am sleeping with my family.

Evacuee Postcards

We have been learning about evacuation in World War 2. In one of our theme lessons we had to imagine we were an evacuee who had been sent away from our home to live in the country.

Huey and Pure Pure wrote postcards that were very like the postcards sent by real evacuees in 1940. Well done Huey and Pure Pure!

Dear Mum and Dad,

I feel sad and I want to go home. When will you come to get me? In the train I saw a lot of children playing but I'm a little bit scared because I don't know any of the children. My new family is good people. I live in a big house. I have a garden, pigs and a horse. My new family take me to a bedroom. It is good and I have a little bed, some toys and some books. They are kind with me. I am very sad being away from home and I very much want you to take me home.

World War 2

Our new theme topic at the start of the new term will be World War 2. We will cover how the war started, who was involved, the Blitz, evacuation and rationing, refugees and prisoners of war.

We will also look at the impact of the war in Asia. Included in the theme plan is a special World War 2 day and school trip to Kanchanaburi to see the bridge over the River Kwai.
